NEW YEAR’S HAIR RESOLUTIONS TO MAKE
I have never been one for making outrageous resolutions at the beginning of the New Year…but this year is going to be all about taking better care of me!
In the busy hustle and bustle of our modern lives, with all the responsibilities we juggle sometimes it gets quite overwhelming and we forget to take care of ourselves.
So for the next couple of months I am going to lay down some ‘care challenges’ – little things we can all do to create some time out and make a little ‘me time’
So the logical place for me to start is with your hair!!
I WILL BE BRAVE
Whether you would love a new hair color, or have been contemplating a new cut sometimes it is fear of a change that stops you from just making that booking and making it happen! Promise yourself this one will be different than all new year’s hair resolutions you’ve made so far! You’ll be braver this year and you will do what you feel is right. You go girl! Colour your hair even if it means some clothes will be off limits for you due to a new shade or why not cut it short even if you’ve worn it long for the last 5 years!Once you have a great relationship with a stylist or colourist who ‘gets’ you, they won’t let you do anything that they don’t believe will suit!
I WILL BE PROACTIVE
That means that not only will you do your best to repair damage that’s already been done but you will really try to reduce the risk of any further damage as well. Proactive approach is the key to healthy, great-looking hair and this next year is the perfect time to start paying a bit more attention to what you’re doing to your hair as well as the long term effects of your actions.
I WILL SPEND MORE TIME STYLING
If you want to leave the house feeling like a star, the key is in the styling. Having a low maintenance cut doesn’t mean you’re off the hook – ‘undone’ hair screams “I don’t have time for me”! I know we all would prefer spending more time doing other things but you should promise yourself to do something nice with your hair before you leave the house. You can curl it, braid it, put it up, experiment with tons of different styles and you don’t even have to have a really special reason to do it! You can be the busiest woman in the world, its all about learning the skills to create the perfect style in a flash! Because every woman deserves to get her hair done, put some make up and clothes to match and enjoy being and feeling flawless like a movie star as often as possible!
I WILL RESTOCK
Throw away products with expired dates, pass along or swap the ones that are not doing it for you, don’t wait for your brushes to fall apart before you decide to get new ones. As you hair style and colour changes so do your home hair care and styling needs! Invest in good quality brushes but opt for cheap accessories so you could get more. As for the products – either use them or pass them along and make sure you are simplifying your routine with the best products to create a flawless style in the quickest time
I WILL LEARN SOMETHING NEW
There is truth to the saying “knowledge is power” and all that extra hair-related knowledge is bound to pay off both sooner and later! No tip is ever unnecessary, no advise is ever too weird to take into account – I’ve discovered that many times and learned a bunch of interesting stuff that helped me take care of my hair much better! Enquire about a Style School session and learn how to manage your hair best at home. Ask your colourist to explain exactly what is happening to your hair fibre during the process so you can make informed decisions
I WILL LEARN TO LOVE MY HAIR
Now is the ideal time to learn how to mask those tiny flaws that are making you feel bad! Invest in a proper teasing brush (not a plastic comb – a natural bristle brush), learn how to tease and enjoy that volume you’ve been dreaming about! Frizzy hair, unmanageable curls, waves you never know what to do with or a pin straight mane that would need a miracle to curl – all of those common problems are solvable and your stylist is here to help
I WILL INVEST A BIT MORE
But only on the right products! If your stylist or colourist truly cares, they should be giving you genuine and honest advice about the best tools to care for and style your hair at home. If you love a certain product or you’ve managed to get some samples and decided it’s truly fabulous, don’t let the price stand on your way. You would spend the same (or roughly the same) amount of money randomly purchasing cheaper products in hopes you’ll find a budget-friendly replacement. Investing in a great hairdressing is investing in the best accessory you can own. Fabulous hair outshines great shoes or a new dress and you wear it every day, so when you are weighing the cost of your hair, just think of it in terms of your favorite garment or accessory and they compare how often you wear it every month…your hair is the single biggest investment you should make, it will make you gorgeous every day!
I DON’T CARE ABOUT AGE/HAIRSTYLE STEREOTYPES
“I will cut my hair because I’m not 30 anymore” has to go and the same can be said for “I will streak my hair or go blond because my grays are showing” and “I will stop wearing my hair this way because it looks age-inappropriate”. Don’t let the society tell you who you ought to be! Enjoy your thick, long hair as long as you want and if you decide to cut it, do it because you needed a change, not because some stupid rule says you should. Channel your inner Grace Coddington, Patricia Field or Vivienne Westwood – do you think the society generally understands their radical looks and hairstyles? And yet, they are absolutely brilliant, full of life and totally amazing!
I WON’T LET MYSELF GET LAZY
There are tons of ways in which you can get lazy with your hair, each deserving its own chapter in your hair care resolution for this year. Don’t get lazy when it comes to trying out new stuff or following up with your well-versed, fool-proof hair care habits. It’s like exercise actually – coaxing yourself into getting your behind off the couch is the hardest part! And what better way to do so than a little black-on-white promise you can’t just shove in the back on your mind!
I WILL ACCEPT COMPLIMENTS WITH A SMILE
Gorgeous hair will attract attention! People will compliment on it and you should learn to accept all of those compliments with a smile.
DAMAGE CONTROL WILL BE MY TOP PRIORITY
This is one of the best and the most important care resolutions a girl can make! And it doesn’t even have to involve ditching heat! Make sure your hair is always well protected and well taken care of which includes everything from a heat protector and SPF product to deep conditioning and nutrition. Wear a hat to protect your hair from extreme temperatures
I WON’T SKIP MY APPOINTMENTS
A haircut is an amazingly cathartic process and even if your hair is long it is wonderful when it is freshly cut. All you need is a good hairstylist and enough will power to resist the temptation to skip an appointment or two and you’re guaranteed to have fabulous hair all the time. Freshly cut hair (even if it’s just a teeny-tiny cut) looks, feels and actually is much healthier so chop even if you’re trying to grow it out. Furthermore, frequent touch-ups done by a person who can understand your needs and give you exactly what you want won’t only help you look amazing and well groomed all the time, but aid your hair-growth efforts as well.
