Hairstyles to beat the heat

Summer is here and with that comes some great summer weather – along with some hairstyles for the heat! If you live in the North, no matter how much you look forward to the warmth…the humidity that comes with it is not so much fun!

Whether you have short hair or long hair, you need some summer options for styles that beat the heat and keep you looking great over this busy time of year!

Fantastic for short or long hair. This is a hair accessory it pays to buy good quality if you are over 20 (so you don’t look like a kid playing dress-up) Here in NZ, Alannah Hill does some amazing styles from elegant to fun.

Half Up Half Down

If you have long hair but still want to keep it down, why not strip away some of that thickness by sweeping your hair on up and keep it loose. This hairstyle for hot weather is ideal for girls that have long hair and are looking for a way to keep it pinned up, but still loose enough to be beach-like.

Fishtail Braid

The fishtail braid has become the hottest braid around for longer style…whether worn down the back of your neck or to the side. Its a two strand braid and remarkably easy once you know how. Once you have mastered the braid you can then incorporate them into more elegant evening styles.

This hairstyle for hot weather can actually work for long or short hair! All you need to do is just make sure that you can brush your hair back a bit, pin it up (or spray it into place) and you’ve got a beautiful look that is ideal for summer!

Slicked Back

It’s hard to find a glamorous evening style for short hair but you can look red carpet-ready in minutes with a sleek slicked-back style. A quick and easy way (that also combines as a great treat for your locks) is to apply Argan Oil liberally though the hair. The wet look will last all evening and the next morning your hair will be beautifully shiny. Your may need to shampoo twice to remove the excess oil.

Ballerina Bun

This is another one for the longer haired girls. A bun is a great way to keep your hair in one place and off of your neck. This twisted bun is – well a twist on the classic bun! Just twist your hair up and twirl it into a bun. Secure it with a few bobby pins and you’ve got a great look!

Baby Braids

Baby braids are actually super stylish right now and are one of the few looks that you can do so much with! All you need to know is a basic braid and it is good for most lengths of hair, short or long

The TopKnot

The Knot hairstyle is actually one that the celebrities are even going to red carpet events in! All you do is gather your hair high on your head and pull it into a messy knot. It’s cute, stylish and is great for the beach, when you’re trying to get your tan on!

Head Scarf

So many fantastic ways to wear a headscarf, so many fantastic headscarves to complete your summer style with. Learning how to wear a headscarf is super-easy, making this style work with your outfit is actually even easier. Great with a sleek and stylish shift dress but equally at home with a bikini or cargo shorts

The Pixie Crop

This classic crop is a brave move but can look fabulous on the right face. It pays to check with your hairdresser first before you hack it all off – they will know whether it’ll suit you or not. The beauty of hair this short is that it doesn’t require a lot of styling time. Towel dry your hair after showering and rub a

Side Swept Pony

Finally, the last hairstyle for hot weather that we are going to talk about is a side-swept ponytail. This might seem a little eighties, but it’s definitely coming back in style! Just gather all of your hair to one side of your head and throw in a very low ponytail. It’s cute, fun and festive!

The Wavy Bob

The poker-straight bob is great, but experimenting with texture can be fun. If you have natural movement in your hair, summer is a great time to let it show
